JANET GOLDER- MY COUNTRY

Janet Comes from Boundary Bore in the Utopia region. She comes from a long line of artists with her grandmother the world renowned indigenous artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye. Janet grew up in Alice Springs but moved to Utopia when she was a teenager. Growing up in this area she used to watch her grandparents paint and developed her style from there focusing predominantly on bush leaves, yam dreaming and women's body paint.

In this painting Janet has depicted the area of her birthplace. There are various campsites and fires that have been lit and people are represented by the U shapes. It is at these campsites that dreamtime stories are told and ceremonies conducted. The different colours represent the land and the various rockholes and sandhills. The area is also surrounded by bush medicine leaves & different types of bush foods.
