JOSIE PETRICK KEMARRE - BUSH PLUM DREAMING

Josie Petrick Kemarre was born at Santa Teresa Mission (80 kms south of Alice Springs), c.1953. Her family come from Atitjera (Harts Range) in Central Australia. As a young child Josie lived a relatively traditional lifestyle, hunting and gathering bush tucker. Her language group is Anmatyerre.

Josie commenced painting around 1991 and has since attained a high degree of sophistication in the interpretation of traditional women's stories. Josie creates captivating abstract forms that emerge from a kaleidoscope of colourful dots. They depict native plants of her homeland and her favorite bush tucker species at various stages of growth. (Bush Plum, Bush Potato). Her paintings are intimately associated with Women’s Awelye (ceremony/dancing) and Women’s Dreamings.
