GENEVIEVE LOY KEMARRE

Genevieve Loy Kemarre was born in 1982 at Boundary Bore, Utopia approximately 270 km North–East of Alice Springs. Her skin name is Kemarre and her language Anmatyerre/Alyawarre.
She is the daughter of Cowboy Loy Pwerle and Carol Kunoth Kngwarraye. Genevieve is painting her father’s country which lies on the western side of the Sandover River on Utopian Station and his Arwengerrp- Bush Turkey Dreaming of which she shares custodianship.

BUSH MEDICINE

Genevieve’s design depicts the leaves of a particular type of native shrub renowned for its medicinal properties. During the life of the plant the leaves change colour and as they do so they exhibit different medicinal properties. In this painting Genevieve employs a range of brush strokes & colours to represent the leaves at different times of the year.
