CAROLINE NUMINA - BUSH MEDICINE LEAVES

 
This painting represents an abundance of leaves from the Kurrajong tree, blowing in the wind. After a good rain in Caroline’s country the desert becomes a blanket of leaves. Many of these leaves are used for bush medicine.
 
The leaves are collected and boiled to extract the resin. After this they are often mixed with kangaroo fat to make a paste and then used to heal cuts wounds, bites, rashes and as an insect repellant.
 
The flowers are also very lovely and sweet to eat.
