Joy Brown started painting in 2006. Her father is the late Pegleg Tjampitjinpa, a well known Walpiri artist and her mother is Margaret Napangardi Brown, also a significant artists at Yuendumu. She often depicts Yumari Dreaming and Womens Dreaming stories.

The site for this Dreaming is Yumari, a collection of rocks west of Kintore in the Gibson Desert. Yumari is the site of a  love union between a Japaljarri man and a Nangala woman.

One day Japaljarri was out hunting and saw Nangala collecting  water at a rockhole. Later that day he sung a powerful love song to draw her to him. Nangla came back to the rockhole and made love with Japaljarri on the flat rock of the  rockhole. Today you can see the dents in the rock made by their passionate union.

This Dreaming was passed down to the artist by a Pintupi man. In contemporary Warlpiri paintings traditional iconography is used to represent the Dreamtime story, associated sites and other elements. In this work concentric circles are often used to represent ‘warnirri’ (rock holes).
