MAISIE GIBSON NAPURRURLA - WOMENS CEREMONY

Maisy began painting in 2000 after watching her mother Monica Napaltjarri paint and continues to paint her families Dreamings.

This traditional painting depicts women’s initiation ceremony where senior women gather together to teach their culture & dreamtime stories to their young women. 

They travel between one sacred site to another depicted by the concentric circles, teaching the importance of each site, their dreamtime songs & dances in the area of the artist’s birthplace. They also teach their young women how to survive & collect bush tucker.
