New Didgeridoo Uploads- December Christmas 2012

We have been busy uploading over 60 new didgeridoos in the last week. In this lot we have some long awaited primo stuff from master craftsmen Adam Henwood of CrookedStixz– a real favourite among serious players.

 

Also some amazing Earl Clements didges at very fair prices. Beautifully painted with traditional motifs, awesome sound quality and some of our best value for money didges. Earl only sends us the best as he knows how fussy we are!

 

Also available are some of our popular affordable hand painted didgeridoos by Brendan Porteous, Leony Roser and Chad Burns.

 

In the next few weeks we will have dozens of quality didges arriving from the likes of Kristian Benton, Tristan OMeara, Alastair Black, Bruce Rogers and Heartland Didgeridoos and some larger flares and belled didgeridoos from Earl Clements and much more. It will be a didgeridoo bonanza here at Spirit Gallery over the next few weeks.

 

Finally, keep an eye out online as Spirit Gallery will be the only didge store in the WORLD to have some rare NEW FULL BURTON didges available for sale. Our good friend Nathan was nice enough to choose Spirit Gallery to showcase the very few didges he has recently made. A real treat for the Burton enthusiasts. They should be available soon. Stay tuned.

 

We have been getting lots of questions about Xmas orders and deliveries. Please note any orders received by the 14th December will be guaranteed delivered anywhere in the world before Xmas- more than likely several days before. And rememeber all international customers will receive a 10% deduction on the advertised price at the checkout as the item will be deemed an export and hence tax/VAT free.

 

Domestic orders can be received as late as the 20th Decemeber, depending on the delivery location. We even have an express overnight service for those very very late orders. E-mail us for details.

 

Lynette Corby Nungarrayi Painting At Spirit Gallery

Over the last few weekends we have had the pleasure of having traditional desert artist Lynette Corby Nungarrayi painting at Spirit Gallery.

 

Born in 1958 Lynette Corby Nungarrayi began painting around 1990. She is a vital member of the Watiyawanu Artists of Amunturrngu Aboriginal Community Corporation.

 

Lynette Corby works in several mediums, as well as painting in acrylics and screen-printing onto garments. She is also a former assistant teacher of Luritja, her traditional language.

 

Lynette’s paintings have gained considerable following, and her work has been part of several exhibitions, including the 2003 Telstra Awards Survey Show.

 

Lynette was chosen for the 20th Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award Survey Exhibition. The painting, Women’s Law and Culture Meeting at Mt Liebig, is now in the collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia.

 

Her works feature in many collections, both here in Australia and overseas.

 

She regularly paints in the gallery on her visits to Sydney, so if you are in the neighbourhood why not drop in and check out her work.

 

 

Scott Estrich – Queensland Didge Player, Teacher & Performer visits Spirit Gallery

We were lucky enough to have our friend from up North Scott Estrich recently visit us.

 

Scott regularly incorporates the didgeridoo into his staff team builiding, corporate and eucational events and courses – often using instruments sourced from Spirit Gallery.

 

Scott has been playing and teaching the didgeridoo for almost 10 years, and has entertained groups and public audiences in concerts and festivals across Australia and Europe. He has worked and trained with didjeridu masters Djalu Gurriwiwi,Milkay Mununggurr and Darryl Dikarrna

 

Scott is available for almost any didgeridoo event whether it be lessons, workshops, weddings or corporate events and more, If you need anything didgeridoo and you are near the Sunshine Coast then Scott is your man!

Spirit Gallery Staff Profile : Sean “the professor” Patrick Ryan

Introducing Sean Patrick Ryan. Sean has been playing and performing with the didgeridoo for over 15 years. Sean belong to the Kuku Nyunkal bubu bamanga. (the people of the Black Cockatoo mother country) from north Queensland.

 

Sean is one of the few professional Aboriginal didgeridoo players based in Sydney, Australia. He has accompanied many artists from a wide range of genres at a variety of venues. From performances with Australia’s premier jazz musician James Morrison at the Sydney Opera House, performances with well known Aboriginal musician Frank Yamma at Fox Studios in Sydney; playing with Djs at night clubs; performances at Kirribilli House for the Governor General of Australia (2011 and 2010); didjeridoo performances for Hettie Perkins at The “Art and Soul” Exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW , solo performances at Boardi Space at Peats Ridge Festival and an upcomg performance with Cirque Du Soleil, among others.

 

When he is not performing or booked for an event you can find Sean here at Spirit Gallery. There is not much he doesn’t know about the didgeridoo, hence the title “professor”

 

Sean also does all our private and group lessons and is also available for any event requiring an indigenous performer, educator and  didgeridoo player.

Dino was one of our first online customers back in January 2012,  purchasing a beautiful IDIDJ yidaki. Over the months while staying in Queensland he improved his playing skills and finally came to visit us in person a couple of times before heading back to Switzerland after his Australian adventure.

 

Before leaving he added a rare Full Burton to his collection. One of the nicest didges we have ever had. A beautiful combination of a classic traditional didge with an amazingly crafted refined modern counterpart.

Tristan O’Meara Didgeridoos Have Arrived

We have just received a great bunch of didgeridoos from our newest maker Tristan O’Meara. Some real quality logs in there. Beautifully crafted with awesome power and resonance.

 

Tristan has been making didgeridoos for a number of years but has only recently turned his hand to full time crafting with an emphasis on high quality instruments. He has refined his technique and skill and it’s now paying off. This bunch of didges is the best we have seen from him, with some absolutely cracking instruments in there.

 

Tristan spends 9 months of the year making didges and working on his music, spending the Australian Winter in Europe as a touring musician, playing a variety of instruments including the didgeridoo combined with the weissonborn lap steel guitar, acoustic guitar, 6 string tenor ukulele, banjo, blues harmonica, native American flutes and of course his voice!!

 

He has released 3 official albums, two live albums and one studio album “southern breezes”.

Tjupurru At Spirit Gallery- Face Bass & Didjeribone!

Brisbane Based International Didjeridu performer Adrian Fabila Tjupurrula aka Tjupurru was nice enough to pay us a visit on his most recent trip to Sydney and show us his unique brand of music.

 

A  proud descendant of the Djabera Djabera tribe of the West Australia Kimberleys, Tjupurru plays the DIDJERIBONE and the FACE BASS, both inventions of his close friend Charlie McMahon.

 

We have seen the Didjeribone before but what is the FACE BASS?  Its an internal seismic microphone that enables the slightest whisper and tremble in your mouth or body to be picked up. Any noise made in or around your mouth and neck – vocally, sub vocally, with your tongue, your teeth, your fingers, swallowing, humming or just breathing is amplified.

 

With the addition of sampling and electronic effects and you have a one mand band called Tjupurru. A unique mixture of sounds and songs that is thorughly entertaining.

 

 

Tjupurru has performed at many festivals and concerts, both in Australia and abroad. He is also very busy doing school performances all over Australia.

Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) filming at Spirit Gallery

NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) – Japan‘s national public broadcasting organisation as part of their series on traditional music from around the world used Spirit Gallery as their location shoot for the Australian didgeridoo part of the program.

 

William Barton helped explain the history of the didgeridoo, playing techniques and gave a general overview of the instrument for the Japanese viewers. The program aired in mid May. Details below (Japanese only). It was a pleasure to accommodate them and help spread the didgeridoo around the world!!

Charlie McMahon and his Didjeribone visit Spirit Gallery

A quick demonstration by Charlie McMahon on the didjeribone during his most recent visit to Spirit Gallery.

 

Charlie invented this pitch shift slide didge in 1981 and is one of enduring legends of the didgeridoo in Australia.
